On paper it doesn't look bad, but the execution is ehhh. Collect hidden nazi gold and get $$$$ that you can spend for waffe upgrades on the black market.

Those are pretty meh and just add more running back forth, especially when you've already robbed all the gold available on them. There're a couple of 'hubs' where you gain missions and then go for actual entry points. It has the same structure as Thief 3 does. There are some siderooms here and there, and the game actually gives you incentives to look for them to hunt NAZI GOLD, but it doesn't really have many actual secret areas, and the sidecorridors/alternative approaches aren't exactly robust or very common. It's not 100% corridor of duty, but it's definitely not big and open like some of the levels in RTCW were (like the stealth mission to infiltrate the secret weapons facility). However, meh stuff - the #1 meh stuff is level design. There are also some cool throwbacks and references to previous Wolfensteens, including Wolf3D. Also, shooting ZE GERMANS and wrecking their OCCULT FORBIDDEN SCIENCE never gets old. Next up are the graphixxx and atmosphere - Some of the secret nazi labs look gorgeous, the colour palette is rich (it uses the Doom3 engine, probably with the last juices squeezed out of it, thanks to which it's not MAXIMUM BROWN like UE3), and some places look really nice when you use Hidden Dimension Vision (TM) that changes the world the same way as Soul Reaver planeshift does. The Waffen SS soldiers are p much as shit as normal ones, only exchanging mp40s for STGs. One thing that I kinda missed were enemies like RTCW's paratroopers - tougher soldiers with bigger guns. Except for the regular soldiers, almost all the enemies are a major pain in the butt, have various strengths and support powers. There's a lot of those, and some are truly annoying - you've got the typical wehrmacht and Waffen SS soldaten, you've got the womyn SS elite guard from RTCW (who are like karate masters in this game), MAGIC-WIELDING NAZI SCRIBES, POSSESSED BURNING NAZIS, INVISIBLE BIOAUGMENTED WRISTBLADE-ARMED ASSASSINS, JETPACK DUDES OMG, etc. But then you get access to all sorts of disintegrator cannons, panzershrecks, tesla guns and bfgs - very much all of them are insanely fun to use, and all of them are useful for various situations (barring the aforementioned mp40). It starts pretty normal with a mauser rifle and mp40 (which later is p much rendered obsolete by the STG44). So what's the cool stuff in here - definitely the guns. 4th/5th or so mission, on a farmhouse fortified by the SS, which is like 2-3 hours into the game, maybe, so fairly quickly. And the cool stuff starts somewhere around the. Over the course of a few hours I've gone from 'HNNNG MAKE IT STOP' to 'MULTIHEADED PLASMA BEAMS DISINTEGRATING ASS AND LEG OH GOD ITS HEAVAN'. Once the proper high tech evil nazi science stuff starts, you get access to more guns, more enemies start popping up the game gets really, REALLY cool. And fucketh me, I actually wasn't disappointed.

I was on the brink of ragequit/uninstall, but I kept playing just to see whether MAYBE it'll get better once the high tech nazis appear.

Really, the start of the game is such downright garbage I thought I was playing call of duty - slow, popamole hp regen, quest compass, corridors, 'BJ FLANK THE MACHINE GUN NEST', a bunch of 'resistance fighters' following you around with 'YOU BETTER RELOAD DR FREEMAN'. But I was bored enough recently to say 'ah fuk it' and give it a go. I haven't touched this game since it was released, as I've heard mostly bad things about it (Wolfenstein rape, popamole, etc), and I believe this is many people's mileage. Sup bros, just finished this one and thought I'd share.
